JOB PURPOSE

Design, develop and optimize optical systems and components with help of simulation tool that are integral to LED lighting products. This role involves applying optical principles and technologies with domain expertise and benchmarking to enhance the performance, efficiency, and aesthetic appeal of lighting solutions

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Optics Design

  • Create detail sketch, rendering and 3 D models of Optical system for general LED Lighting.
  • Optical simulation of 3 D models and analysis using software tools like Tracepro or LightTools to optimize light distribution and efficiency for optimizing the design and meet the project requirement.
  • Conduct research and development projects to innovate and enhance the optical performance of lighting systems.
  • Design optical systems and components for lighting products, including lenses, reflectors, and diffusers in collaboration with CFT.
  • Stay updated with advances in optical technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes relevant to lighting products.

Participate in NPD

  • Select and simulate the IES files of off the self-lens available in Lens Manufacturer websites to meet the desired optics.
  • Work with CFT to integrate optical components into lighting systems, considering factors such as light sources, drivers, and control systems.
  • Selection of appropriate optical materials based on performance requirements, cost considerations, and environmental factors.
  • Communicate with external agencies and suppliers for proto and tool development for lens.

Evaluation

  • Test, validate and measure the performance of lighting products in terms of light output, uniformity, color temperature, and energy efficiency and make improvements as needed.
  • Conduct optical testing, including photometric measurements, spectral analysis, and colorimetry, to validate performance and compliance with standards.
  • Ensure that optical designs and lighting products comply with industry regulations, standards, and certifications (e.g., IESNA, ENERGY STAR, DLC).
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies for testing, certification, and documentation of optical performance.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to integrate optical considerations into overall product development processes.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

B.E / B.TECH/ Masters in Physics/Photonics/ Optoelectronics/ Illumination engineering

Work Experience

5-10 years

FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES

Technical Expertise:

  • Proficiency in optical design software such as Zemax, LightTools, or FRED for designing and analyzing optical systems.
  • Ability to create and optimize optical components like lenses, reflectors, diffusers, and light guides to achieve desired lighting performance metrics.
  • Sound knowledge of lighting technologies such as LEDs (Light-Emitting Diodes), OLEDs (Organic Light-Emitting Diodes), and traditional light sources like incandescent and fluorescent lamps.
  • Sound Knowledge of lighting standards, color rendering indices (CRI), and energy efficiency metrics (e.g., lumens per watt) relevant to lighting products.
  • Ability to conduct optical measurements, analyze data, and interpret results to validate optical performance and compliance with specifications.
  • Knowledge of optical materials such as polymers, glass, and specialized coatings used in lighting applications.
  • Good Understanding of material properties affecting optical performance, including transmittance, reflectance, absorption, and dispersion.
  • Ability to simulate and optimize optical designs for factors like efficiency, uniformity, color accuracy, and glare control.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address technical challenges, optimize designs, and troubleshoot optical issues.
  • Ability to innovate and propose novel solutions to improve optical performance, reduce costs, or enhance user experience in lighting products.

 

Process Expertise:

  • Good Experience in optical testing methodologies, including photometry, spectrometry, colorimetry, and gonio photometry.
  • Proficiency in using computational tools for optical modeling and simulation to predict light propagation, distribution, and interactions within optical systems.
  • Knowledge of Lens and reflector manufacturing process.
