Senior Engineer - Engineering Design (Electronics) - Lighting

JOB PURPOSE

This role will involve analyzing existing products, identifying cost-saving opportunities, enhancing performance, and ensuring compliance with industry standards while maintaining product quality and functionality. The engineer will work cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, procurement, and quality teams to implement innovative cost-reduction strategies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Product development & VA/VE

• Lead value engineering initiatives in consumer lighting products to optimize cost, material efficiency, and performance.  
• Use simulation tools for design validation and use the same for design optimization.
• Analyze product designs and identify opportunities to reduce costs through design modifications, material substitutions, and process improvements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality, to implement cost-effective solutions without compromising performance and compliance.
• Conduct benchmarking of competitive products and industry trends to identify potential cost-saving techniques.
• Utilize Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to improve manufacturability and assembly efficiency.
• Work closely with suppliers to explore alternative materials and components that offer better cost-effectiveness.
• Develop and validate prototypes to test design changes for cost optimization.
• Ensure all modifications meet regulatory and industry standards (UL, CE, RoHS, etc.).
• Document engineering changes and maintain records of value engineering projects.
• Provide technical expertise in cost analysis, feasibility studies, and risk assessments for proposed design modifications.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and drive innovation in product design and development.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

B.E/B.Tech/ M.Tech  in Mechatronics/Electrical/ Electronics.

WORK EXPERIENCE

5-10 years

FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES WITH PROF LEVELS

Technical Skills:  

• experience in product development, value engineering, or cost reduction roles, preferably in the consumer lighting or electronics industry.
• Strong understanding of lighting technologies, LED systems, thermal management, and optical design principles.
• Experience with cost analysis tools, VA/VE methodologies, and cost-saving strategies.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, die-casting, metal stamping, and PCBA manufacturing.
• Familiarity with industry standards and compliance regulations for lighting products.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and a hands-on approach to engineering challenges.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

• Able to estimate the manufacturing cost of a product based on its design, materials, and processes.
