JOB PURPOSE

To lead motor technology innovation, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver sustainable, high-performance solutions. Guide innovative motor propositions for performance, durability and cost.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead strategic direction for motor design and development, driving innovation and ensuring alignment with product roadmaps.
  • Oversee motor technology projects, focusing on energy conservation, digitalization, and automation.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align motor development with long-term business and product strategies.
  • Guide teams in developing high-impact motor solutions and resolving complex technical challenges, for NPD, Adv Dev and cost-out projects
  • Oversee project reviews and approvals, ensuring projects meet technical and business objectives and progress efficiently through the design and validation phases.
  • Guide juniors in developing effective design validation plans (DVPs) for proof-of-concept (POC) validations in collaboration with the Validation team.
  • Organize and lead hackathons, workshops, and other innovation-driven events to foster creativity and collaboration within the team and with external partners.
  • Conduct strategic IP landscaping and technology scouting to identify emerging trends, opportunities, and potential threats, ensuring the company’s technology roadmap is robust and forward-thinking.
  • Guide the development and application of predictive engineering tools using first principles and empirical models.
  • Mentor team members in using predictive engineering and digital simulation tools to forecast performance and lifespan, ensuring first-time-right (FTR) outcomes.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Essential: BE/Btech/ME/Mtech in Electrical Engg

PhD is desirable

Work Experience

15-20 years of experience in motor design engineering or related fields.

Experience with BLDC, Single phase induction, Universal motor, Axial flux, SRM and PCB motor design background is preferred.

Experience of industrialization of motors with CFTs and supply partners is desirable.

CERTIFICATIONS

  • DFSS GB certification must have.
  • Desirable :
    • Design Thinking Certification
    • DFSS BB is desirable. 

PREFERRED/ ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT

Preferred: Design and development experience of AC universal motor, Brushed/ Brushless DC motor, Single phase induction motor, PMSM, SRM, Stepper Motor.

DFSS Green belt is required.

Desirable: Awareness of RCA and problems solving tools and techniques, Statistical tools and techniques. DFSS BB is desirable.

DFSS BB is desirable.

INTERNAL / EXTERNAL INTERFACE

Internal – Engineering Design team, PRC, DQC, Product development team, Tooling Teams, Adv Development teams

External – End consumer

FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES

Technical skills:

  • Expert level understanding in electromagnetic principles and motor design theory, applied to innovative projects.
  • Strategic proficiency in thermal and NVH aspects of motor design, including cutting-edge thermal management solutions.
  • Superior knowledge of advanced materials, their properties, and selection criteria for critical motor applications.
  • Mastery in using simulation software like Ansys Maxwell to analyze and optimize motor performance.
  • Strategic expertise in root cause failure analysis for motor test and field failures, driving systematic problem-solving initiatives.
  • Proficient in motor driving topologies and control algorithms, including advanced LV/HV BLDC motor drivers and FOC/Vector Control.
  • In-depth understanding of diverse motor technologies and their innovative applications across various industries.

Process skills:

  • Proficiency in structured problem-solving and decision-making tools such as Six Sigma and 8D tools, RCA tools and techniques for design and field failure investigation
  • Expert level understanding of the IP process
  • Influencing and guiding cross-functional teams to achieve optimal integration of hardware, firmware, and software, fostering collaborative innovation.
  • Strong documentation and standards leadership skills, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
