Materials Scientist - Research & Advanced Development Job

Job purpose & Scope

1. Carrying out fundamental research programs in Polymer materials (Plastic/ Elastomer/Fiber/ Silicone) innovation /new materials development and implementation along with new ideas/technology to create a range of products from LED lamps to Appliances, Fans, etc.
2. Developing research plans and screening of potential alternative and sustainable raw materials (Plastic/ Elastomer/Fiber) for Home and Kitchen Appliances as well as for lighting segment
3. Development and Application of Functional coatings/ High performance coatings for application on various substrates (Plastic/Metal/Elastomer)
4. Development and Application of High performance Polymeric Coating/ Ceramic Coating/ Super hydrophobic anti-corrosion technology/ Non-stick Coating 
5. Systematic experimentation for process optimization
6. Study the structure –property relationship in Materials- ceramics, plastics, composites, nanomaterials, Elastomer and other substances to create new materials that meet certain mechanical, electrical, and chemical requirements for the BEL products. In addition, develop new ways to use existing materials.

Major Areas of Responsibilities & Authorities

• Investigate materials required for product development, must have knowledge material testing. Run research projects, investigate Paint related issues, research on different Material required for product development for Consumer product and Lighting/ Fan
• Plan and carry out specific experiments in the area of Polymer/ Ceramic/ Elastomer to generate technology solutions choices for BEL products
• Work with project sponsors in developing project scope and criteria, defining the technical problem, and understanding past learning's.
• Plan and evaluate new projects, Collaborate with other engineers and managers as necessary and external research partners academic and Industrial
• Work with suppliers to specify and develop materials
• Participation in Molding Trial
• Monitor how materials perform and evaluate how they deteriorate
• Determine causes of product failure and develop ways of overcoming such failure
• Shall be aware of Reliability lab equipment and various reliability tests of materials and electrical and electronic components
• People with inventions or high innovation potential preferred
• Actively contribute to share knowledge and build technical skills for self / team
• Participating and contributing to R&D Communities of Practice

Person Specifications

Essential Qualification: 1. BE/ B. Tech in Chemical Engineering/ Polymer Sc. and Eng./ Materials Science and Engineering (5 -8 Yrs of Experience)

2. M.Tech in Polymer Sc. and Eng./ Materials Science and Engineering (2-3 Yr Experience)

Desired Qualification: -

Experience: 5-8 years’ min for BE/ BTECH. 2-3 Years for ME/ M TECH

Industry Preference: Materials R&D. Candidate must have R&D background with detailed knowledge on Material formulation/development and application. Candidate from Sabic/ Dow / Dupont/ Reliance or any Polymer Industry/ Polymer Compounding Industry/Polymer Composite Industries with R&D background and/Basic Knowledge on Plastic/elastomer processing
